Basics In Manual Handling Training
Manual handling training is important for any mother so that she would know what to do in an emergency situation. If your child is a toddler, choking and head injuries can happen at any time. Children are more likely to run around when they reach 18 months and at this age, they get bumps, wounds, and many other accidents that if, mishandled, can cause severe physical deformities.
You should know what emergency numbers to call and you should also know how to perform first aid. But, if you know what to do in an emergency situation, there are more chances of saving your child’s life.
You should have a ready written or computer-based medical history of your child that can assist the doctors in making their diagnosis and treatment. Your list should have the allergies that your child has, the medication that he or she has taken over the last few months, or years, as well as her pre-existing illnesses.
Dates will also prove helpful in ascertaining whether the child is ready for a particular treatment or not. Mothers would often lose their cool during times like these so it is necessary to have the medical history on hand. This is why a written medical history will prove very helpful.
If your child has just suffered from a head injury, a bump may rise from the injured area which is caused by the leaking of liquid or blood from the veins in the scalp. This may take days to a week to disappear. Carefully watch over your child and look for signs like: persistent crying; complains of head and neck pain; vomiting repeatedly; difficult to awaken; difficult to console; and sleepiness. If these signs are present, there is probably an even deeper injury than meets the eye. Take your child immediately to the nearest hospital for treatment.
Is your child prone to accidents? Knowing manual handling training can save your child’s life.
